Happy new years everyone! Hope you all had a great time and stayed safe during the holidays.
I took another week off as you might have guessed, and I gotta say it was much needed. Of course, I got some work done too, can't start the year off by slacking completely after all. I more or less finished the last map of the demo. It turned out to be trickier than I thought, especially when it came to getting the right scale of things. I had almost finished it when I realized everything was too big, and had to redo all the tents and crates and manmade stuff. Here's what I have now (warning, large image!)
You can see the player sprite next to the upper most tent for scale. It's not actual size, just zoomed out so it can fit on the page. I know it's a bit empty, but at the same time it serves as an arena for the boss fight so I don't want it to be too cluttered lest it gets in the way of the player. I may add more and/or shift stuff around after some testing.
Something else came up as I was making this map. I realized that the parallax in the first map (the one where you can see the camp) will need to be changed in order to match the new camp, and maybe even the path leading up to it. Honestly it's not a HUGE deal, but I want my maps to be consistent, so I'll be editing the parallax. It shouldn't be too hard, I've done it before and should be able to figure it out.
So that's what I'll be doing next week. Vacation's over, and it's time to get back to work. I'll finish up the maps, and get started on programming the boss itself too. My sprite artist took the holidays off too, but he should be back soon and hopefully I'll finally be able to show you guys the opening cutscene.
That's it for this time, happy new years again! See you all next week!
