Neo Edda - Dev Diary #15

Final stretch before release of the demo, here we go!

THIS PAST WEEK

First of all, I revamped a second map for more variety. Also comes with a few destructible barricades for some added challenge. I may decorate the cliff a bit more later, but this will do for now.

All the cutscenes are more or less done, all that's needed is a short ending scene. I won't show the new cutscene here due to spoilers, but it needed a few new things so that took a while. I may need to draw a new map for it, but that's honestly the easy part. That aside, I also did some tweaking and bug fixing for the boss fight. There's still a bit that's driving me nuts, if I can't figure it out I'll have to find some workaround.


Finally sound effects. I added a bunch of sound effects for various things, including magic shots, new death sounds, and most importantly, player voice. There aren't voice lines unfortunately, not yet at least, but there are now a variety of attack sounds, a hurt sound, and death sound for the main character. There are still a handful of sound effects I need to add, especially UI stuff, but I should be able to knock that out in a day or so. Some more music might be nice too.


THE NEXT WEEK

As mentioned before, one more cutscene needs to be made and some more sound effects need to be added, but the main thing I'll be working on next week is the arena mode. The bulk of the code is already there, I just need to tweak a few things here and there to customize it for the new mode (once again I'm glad I made all the game objects "modular", so to speak). I don't think it'll be too hard to do, but I'm sure there will be quite a bit of testing that needs to be done.


Another thing I just realized that I still need is a title screen. Honestly it's on me for not realizing it until now, but at least it shouldn't be too hard. I just need to come up with an idea for what to put there, which is honestly the hard part. Once that's all done I'll be releasing the demo, hopefully before or at the same time as next week's dev diary.


SUMMARY/TL;DR

- Tweak/fix bugs in boss fight
